Why implants?

Implants change peooples lives. They are the longest lasting treatment we have in dentistry, and the closest representation of your natural teeth in terms of strength, esthetics and durability. Implants can be utlized to replace single teeth, or support bridges, and full dentures. A denture supported by implants is retained in the mouth by the implants and provides the stability needed to eat with a chewing motion more like when you had your natural teeth.

Do implants hurt?

No. We have more anesthetic than our patients have nerves. And, the implant placement itself is a minor procedure with little post-treatment discomfort.

How long does the implant procedure take?

Implant placement can take a little as 45 minutes to up to a few hours for full mouth treatments.

Do you put me to sleep for implant placement?

Not usually, implant placement itself is a minor procedure and well tolerated by our patients.

How long until I have a tooth?

After an implant is placed, it is best to wait six months to allow your bone to grow around and hold the implant tight. During that waiting period we have three temporary options for our patients to replace the tooth. After six months, a permanent white crown (tooth) can be placed on top of the implant, and they look nice, really nice.

Bad Breath: Why? And, How to Prevent It.

Where does bad breath come from?

Well, mostly the mouth itself. 87% of bad breath originates in the mouth. The ear, nose and throat comprise about 8% of bad breath cases.

What can I do to prevent bad breath?

Get those bacteria and food particles out of your mouth. Here are five ways to do just that are not going to shock you:

Use a tongue scraper in the mornings when you brush your teeth. Get all the way to the back of that tongue and gently brush forward a couple times.
Brush your teeth morning and night.
Floss your teeth. There are millions of bacteria building villages (or “militias” as one of my young patients added) in between your teeth and under the gums where the tooth brush does not reach.
Drink water. Water flushes out bacteria, sugar and food particles.
Eat less cheese, garlic, onions and German sausages (this recommendation is purely based off of anecdotal evidence).
